Umbrella Entertainment has always been well known for classic Australian film andtelevisionreleases, but, did you also know we have an impressive range of Blu ray titles? We’re excited to share with you three special Blu ray titles released this month.

Come behind the scenes with us!

First up is The Island

The Island is based on the bestselling novel by Peter Benchley who is also responsible for Jaws and The Deep, so you can be sure you’re set for high adventure and thrilling suspense! To top things off, The Island features some seriously reputable acting talent! Starring the illustrious Michael Caine (The Dark Knight), David Warner (Titanic) and Angela Punch-McGregor, (We of the Never Never, Annie’s Coming Out) this is a cast not to be overlooked.

So what’s it all about? It’s an action packed, high-seas adventure! Michael Caine plays a reporter investigating a series of mysterious ocean disappearances in the Caribbean. Things get interesting when Caine and his son investigate and their plane crashes on an island brimming with crazed, murderous pirates. With only their wits to protect them, they are forced in to an epic battle in a desperate attempt to escape. Prepare to be on the edge of your seat while you ride out the adventure!

Another new Blu ray release not to be missed is Adaptation. Directed by Spike Jones (Where the Wild Things Are, Being John Malkovich), this film is a wildly unpredictable comedy about a writer who, out of sheer desperation, decides to insert himself into the screenplay he’s struggling to adapt. All is going well until reality and fiction begin to overlap in the most unexpected ways! Based on The Orchid Thief by Susan Orlean and featuring  Nicolas Cage (It Could Happen To You), Meryl Streep (Postcards From the Edge), Chris Cooper (The Equalizer Series 3) and the inimitable Tilda Swinton (The Chronicles of Narnia, Caravaggio), Adaptation is unflinchingly clever, endearingly funny and heartily deserving of its international acclaim and cult status.

Umbrella has long been a fan of David Cronenberg and his work from films like Scanners I and  The Brood. So it’s no wonder we’re just a little bit excited to be adding to our Cronenberg collection in the form of Dead Ringers on Blu ray. Dead Ringers features stunning new cover art and is based on the disturbing novel Twins by Bari Wood and Jack Geasland. Dead Ringers charts the story of twin gynaecologists who share the same practice and the same women. However, when one brother falls in love with their latest conquest, the relationship threatens to destroy them both.

The creepiest thing about this film? It’s actually based on a true story! Eeek!

Boasting a brilliant cast including Jeremy Irons (The Mission) and Geneviève Bujold (Anne of the Thousand Days, Swashbuckler), this film will take you on a disturbing and visceral journey that you won’t want to miss.
