Film synopsis

A superb psychological drama that debuted at the 2014 Toronto International Film Festival, The New Girlfriend is the latest in the recent string of hits of by director François Ozon, including In the House. Claire (played by festival poster girl Anaïs Demoustier) is grieving the loss of her lifetime best friend Laura, who has left behind a husband, David (Chinese Puzzle’s much-loved actor Romain Duris), and a newborn baby.

On an unannounced visit following Laura’s funeral, Claire discovers that David has been harbouring a secret that will ultimately change the course of both of their lives. As her initial shock wears off, Claire reaches out to comfort David and
help him overcome the hurdles ahead of him.

As the Toronto Film Festival organisers recently said, “Like the wittiest dinner guest imaginable, François Ozon tells tales that sizzle. Lust, longing, and broken taboos fill his scenarios, all relayed with precision and style”.

Ozon delivers a well-paced film that investigates grief, identity and friendship.
