An intensely dramatic portrait of inner-suburban life, Winter of Our Dreams is “…a subdued, intelligent, thoughtful film…”                                                                      David Stratton

Umbrella Entertainment is proud to announce the world premiere release on DVD of ‘Winter Of Our Dreams on July 3rd in restored widescreen transfer.  The 1981 feature film directed by internationally acclaimed filmmaker John Duigan (Sirens, The Year My Voice Broke) was the first and only time Australian actors Judy Davis and Brian Brown have worked together.

The film is based on the story of Rob McGregor (Bryan Brown – Breaker Morant, Beautiful Kate) a charismatic owner of a popular Paddington bookshop who is living in an open marriage with his wife Gretel (Cathy Downes – Monkey Grip). Whilst Gretel is busy pursuing an affair, Rob learns of the tragic death of Lisa, a friend whom he had known back in the days when they were both radical student activists more than a decade earlier.  While seeking the truth behind Lisa’s suicide, Rob comes into contact with her friend Lou (Judy Davis – My Brilliant Career, Eye Of The Storm), a prostitute and heroin user wrestling with her own personal demons.

Winter Of Our Dreams was nominated for seven AFI Awards and won Best Actress for Judy Davis’ outstanding performance as Lou. Davis was also won Best Actress at the Moscow International Film Festival. The film also features the screen debut of an eighteen-year old Baz Luhrmann (The Great Gatsby). The DVD also features special audio commentary with Director/Writer John Duigan and the movie’s original trailer.
